About
Dr. Scott K. Berman is a thoracic and vascular surgeon who specializes in malignant and nonmalignant diseases of the lung, airways, heart, mediastinum, esophagus, chest wall, and pleura, and vascular disease of the arteries and veins to the head, neck, chest, abdomen and legs. He has been in practice at White Plains Hospital for over 25 years. In 1993 he performed the first video assisted thoracic surgical procedure in Westchester County at White Plains Hospital. He has been able to establish a track record of success comparable to the finest institutions in the country and has been innovative in the application of new technology and procedures in Westchester and at White Plains Hospital.
Dr. Berman received his undergraduate education at Rutgers College in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Before beginning his medical education, he ran a molecular genetics laboratory at Rutgers University. He received his M.D. from UMDNJ-Rutgers Medical School in 1983. His general surgery residency was performed at the University of Connecticut-St. Francis Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut and his Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgical Residency was performed at SUNY-Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. Since 1990 he has been performing thoracic and vascular surgery at White Plains Hospital and in Westchester County.
Dr. Berman received board certification in general surgery and cardiovascular and thoracic surgery and is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and is currently certified and credentialed by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Berman is particularly interested in thoracic surgical oncology and lung cancer, mediastinal tumors, both benign and malignant, tumors of the chest wall, minimally invasive and video assisted thoracic surgery, tracheal and endobronchial diseases, and esophageal diseases, in addition to endovascular and traditional open vascular surgery and thoracic outlet syndrome.
Here at White Plains hospital, Dr. Berman and his colleagues are able to employ the highest levels of technical expertise in caring for their patients. Dr. Berman and the thoracic and vascular surgical teams are able to employ minimally invasive techniques such as video assisted thoracic surgery and state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques such as the use of EBUS (endobronchial ultrasound) to evaluate both the presence of a benign conditions and the staging of malignant conditions. By combining state-of-the-art thoracic surgical procedures and techniques with outstanding thoracic and vascular surgical support including anesthesia, intensivists, pulmonologists, oncologists, and radiation therapists, the thoracic and vascular surgical specialists are able at White Plains hospital to offer our patients the highest level of surgical care which, we feel, has demonstrated itself to be comparable to the finest institutions in the country.
